gynaecological cancers

Cancer prevention

The different gynaecological cancers all have their own risk factors, many of which are lifestyle-related. For example, cervical and vulval cancers are strongly linked to HPV infection, whereas obesity and some forms of hormone replacement therapy can increase the risk of endometrial cancer.

Well woman checks
London Gynae Cancer Care offers well woman checks that are specifically tailored to meet your individual needs. These include a consultation with a healthcare professional, during which we will sensitively discuss your lifestyle, medical history, family history and any concerns you might have regarding your risk of cancer. If appropriate, you may also be offered various tests such as a cervical smear, blood tests, or referred for an ultrasound scan of your pelvis.Based on the results of these checks, we can offer specific advice about your lifestyle and your risk of different gynaecological cancers, and appropriate interventions (e.g. HPV vaccination).

HPV vaccination
HPV infection is responsible for almost all cases of cervical cancer, and more than a third of vulval cancers, in the UK. Immunisation with HPV vaccine (Cervarex®) is highly effective in preventing infection, and is currently available in the UK to women between the ages of 13 and 49 years. In addition, a newer vaccine, Gardasil® 9 is now available, which protects against nine different strains of HPV that together account for 90% of cervical cancers worldwide.HPV vaccination is available at London Gynae Cancer Care, and can be given either as part of a Well woman check, or on request.

London Gynae Cancer Care

About one in every two people will be diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives. The very thought of cancer can be overwhelming or even frightening, while the disease and its treatment can place great strain on both patients and their families and friends. Recognising this, London Gynae Cancer Care offers compassionate care, information and support to our patients and their families at all stages of their cancer journey.

But treating cancer isn’t the whole picture. At London Gynae Cancer Care, we also offer a range of services aimed at screening for cancer in women at risk, or diagnosing early cancer that has not yet spread (preinvasive cancer).
